A study initiated by the Honda brand surveyed 1,500 parents who had at least one child between the ages of five and 16 years-old. The study revealed that 77 percent of parents view listening to books or stories as vital to their children’s cognitive development as well as their listening skills. The survey also showed that 69 percent of parents are worried that their kids spend too much time looking at cell phone, computer, and television screens. Parents also expressed concern about their children not reading for fun and the reduced number of chances that kids have to use their imaginations.

When the program was launched in December, 2015, its library included more than 100 audiobooks which the Honda brand selected by partnering with the National Teacher of the Year Program, which is run by the Council of Chief State School Officers. Most of the audiobooks in the program include critical thinking questions that will help foster conversations between parents and their children, deepen the thought they give to the related book, and inspire creative thinking.
